Hi, I’m Taralyn, a freelance writer for hire from Huntsville, Alabama- aka The Rocket City.
No, seriously, we make rockets here.
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember- from the cheesy poetry of my youth (for which I actually won a couple of awards) to my current column for a local parenting website, Rocketcitymom.com, where I blog about being a single, working mom and what it’s like raising a smaller version of myself.
I’m a proud graduate of Spelman College with a B.A. in Philosophy as well as Master’s in Public Affairs and a Graduate Certificate in Technical Writing, both from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
When I’m not writing, I’m usually trying to stay one step ahead of my incredibly creative daughter; looking for good food, good music, or a good deal on a pair of shoes; and randomly inserting music lyrics into everyday conversation.
“I first discovered Taralyn's talent for writing when I saw her Op-Ed in The Huntsville Times. Since then, I've had the pleasure of working as her editor at Rocket City Mom for three years. Taralyn's storytelling abilities are matched by her leadership skills - she's an active participant in the editorial process, and is always looking for ways to make a post better. She has a keen understanding of our audience and her articles are always well-written, useful and entertaining.”
“Taralyn is a smart, insightful thinker and writer. She blends great writing and speaking skills with a wisdom, authenticity and accessibility. Taralyn is also great to work with: committed, very pleasant and high standards. It has been a pleasure to have her as a regular contributor to the WEUPTalk show on WEUP, 94.5 FM/1700 AM, and to read her blog posts on the Rocket City Mom website.”
“When I directed the UAH graduate technical program, Taralyn Caudle was one of my very best graduate students. She displayed a professionalism that raised the level of discourse in the class, and was at same time congenial and cooperative. Her oral presentations set a standard for others to match. I particularly remember how easily she picked up new online technologies, such as Surveymonkey, and what a thoughtful and intelligent analysis she made in a study of how United Way could use social networking, when Facebook was brand new. She is quick to pick up on concepts and to cut through to essentials. I have the greatest respect for her abilities, and it is a pleasure to recommend her to others.”
Taralyn Caudle provided assistance to my daughter in content editing for her college common application essays. She was so thorough in her approach to not only make corrections and suggestions, but she invoked a deeper realm of creativity in my daughter’s writing skills by asking her to add more of what she actually felt was important in various portions of her writings. Taralyn was very professional and supportive throughout my daughter’s common application process. Not only did my daughter use the essays that were edited for her common application, she was also able to use them as a resource for every scholarship she applied for. Currently, she is enrolled into her school of choice and she received several scholarship offers. The level of expertise and insight that Taralyn Caudle accentuated into my daughter’s original essays was the most valuable aspect of her college entrance journey.
Looking for a few good words? Well, you’ve come to the right place.
Over 10 years of experience in nonprofit and higher education mean I’ve written everything from press releases and strategic diversity plans to website copy and volunteer training manuals. And I’ve even had experience writing and editing software documentation, not to mention the last 3 years I’ve spent blogging.
But what I’d really love to do is help YOU with your writing needs. Here’s what I have to offer:
While parenting is my blogging forte, I also enjoy writing about diversity and inclusion, higher education and current events. You can count on engaging (and often amusing) content that’s also informative and well written, of course.
Whether it’s a press release, a brochure, or online content, I’ve got you covered. I’m particularly interested in helping small businesses, start-ups and professional hustlers (aka entrepreneurs) achieve their goals. Working with passionate business owners only makes my work better.
Need to dust off your resume? Preparing for those inevitable college essays? Finally getting around to writing that book? Then you’ll probably need a good editor. I understand that editing is about more than just correcting typos and adjusting grammar. It’s about molding a piece of work so that it accurately reflects you and your message. That’s where I come in…
Working with me is a collaborative process, and I guarantee the work will be of the highest quality and delivered in a timely manner.
Have I piqued your curiosity, yet? If so, send me an e-mail and let’s chat. I’d love to help you find a few good words for your next project.
